UK Private Assets Strategy

UK Private Assets Strategy

    The UK opportunity. Made investible.

The UK's private markets offer attractive opportunities for pension investors. Yet for too long, the industry has lacked investment solutions designed around the practical needs of pension schemes. Our UK Private Assets Strategy was created to help change that.

The first multi-private asset strategy focused exclusively on the UK opportunity

Investing solely in UK businesses, infrastructure and development projects, the strategy unlocks the full potential of the UK's private markets for investors.

Our strategy offers pension schemes diversified, actively managed exposure to the broad range of private market opportunities available in the UK.

By blending investments across private equity and venture capital, real assets and private credit, including direct investments, co-investments and externally managed investments, it aims to capture the higher long-term return potential of private markets.

    Designed for UK Pension Schemes

As a UK-authorised Long Term Asset Fund (LTAF), the strategy has been designed to support the governance, operational and liquidity requirements of UK pension schemes.

    The structure aims to provide:

    - A UK-regulated structure providing access to UK private markets

    - A single investment providing diversified exposure across UK private markets, reducing governance and implementation complexity

    - Liquidity arrangements designed to balance long-term investment with the practical needs of pension schemes

    - Access through multiple investment platforms, supporting easier implementation

    Case study: Data Centres

This investment supports nLighten, a pan-European edge data centre business backed by I Squared Capital, in upgrading and expanding its regional data centres across the UK. This will help increase the capacity needed to meet growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services.

By investing in essential digital infrastructure, the strategy supports the UK’s digital economy while helping to finance the technology and connectivity that businesses and communities increasingly rely on.

The investment demonstrates how pension capital can support critical UK infrastructure while providing attractive long-term return potential for UK pension schemes.

    Case study: Affordable Housing

This investment provided financing to SME housing developer Pocket Living for Sheepcote Road, an intermediate-affordable housing scheme in Harrow. The completed development comprises 149 one-bedroom ‘pocket’ homes, including 109 discount market rent units, supporting strong demand from local key workers.

The transaction demonstrates how real estate debt can provide UK pension schemes with exposure to income-generating investments backed by high-quality assets, while supporting the delivery of affordable housing and contributing to the regeneration of local communities.

    Case study: Life Sciences

This investment supported AAVantgarde, a life sciences company developing next-generation gene therapies for rare inherited retinal diseases. The funding will help advance clinical research into treatments for conditions where there are currently limited therapeutic options.

The investment demonstrates how pension capital can support medical innovation while providing exposure to the long-term growth potential of the life sciences sector.
